Abstract

Pure has been used for research management for several years at the Universität Hamburg. The public presentation of research activities on the websites of the university has so far been decentralized, though, with a lot of effort and individual technical solutions in the respective departments and faculties.

Instead, Pure can act as a central solution for all parties as a base system for the differentiated display of research activities on websites: on a personal, organizational, and institutional level.

By only using one system for generating website content the resulting main challenges are 1) identification of persons, 2) how to determine (and differentiate between) one person’s organizational affiliation(s), and 3) how to ensure a constant data quality of the specific level.

The connection of Pure to the human resource (HR) system and the data warehouse (DWH) provides the possibility of a unique allocation of persons and thus enables a consistent and quality-assured connection between people and organizational units. Harvesting of the content from Pure is done via the implemented REST API. Outside of Pure, the data is transformed, filtered, and sorted. Internal identifiers and the underlying organizational structure were used as filters to directly create various lists of research activities. Finally, the content is rendered in different ways on the respective personal, organizational, and institutional (CRIS Portal) websites.
