Abstract

With the introduction of the Data Quality interface and an expansion of the automatic deduplication functionality over the past 12 months we have made significant improvements to how Pure users are able to organize and curate their research information in support of better reporting, showcasing and compliance.

Whilst these improvements have made it easier to be in control of your data, we are continually reviewing approaches and listening to feedback on what could be made better.

One such area of review relates to the core principles of deduplication in Pure – and in particular for Pure Community customers where the same works are routinely added from multiple clients and ‘merged’ into a single version.

This discussion aims to consider an (hypothetical) alternative perspective where rather than deduplicate and merge records, we instead create a new ‘representation version’ of a record that enables a combination of core data records but retains the independence of individual contributing works. We invite Pure data managers to critique and contribute ideas to such an approach and discuss the impact it may have on reporting and showcasing.
