Abstract

This presentation outlines the implementation and development of Pure at the University of Dundee, including a discussion of the background and drivers of use for the impact content type. Anecdotal evidence suggests that use of this content type within Pure is inconsistent or neglected. Using information available from the Client Portals webpage, we reviewed the portals of Pure customers around the world to inform our understanding of who is using the impact module and how. Acknowledging the limitations of this approach, we speculate why impacts are more visible on portals based in the UK and Australia than elsewhere and discuss the potential drivers for this. We consider the reasons which might lie behind the lack of engagement with impact in Pure and discuss how the current impact template might be developed to meet our needs. Drawing from our combined experience of the implementation and operation of Pure, and approaches to the development of impact case studies for the purposes of research assessment in the UK, we present an amended impact template. We propose a methodology to ensure that both the details of the impact itself and the supporting evidence can be recorded and stored in Pure. We go on to suggest areas for further development, such as the creation of impact sub-categories, following the model of other content types, and interoperability with Researchfish and other reporting systems.
